The Strength, The Respect, The Tears
This is a digital remake of an idea that I had originally painted on canvas. I really think it turned out well for an idea of a tattoo that I hope to someday bear on my own body(- minus the background colors.) But, as for my motivation for this particular piece, I wanted something artistically symbolic of how I perceive myself as an individual, as well as include things that I respect and appreciate. First off, the background colors were picked simply because I thought it went well with the mood of the piece and helped the artwork pop. The text crazy fool is taken from a biography written about Sublime's lead singer, Brad Nowell. I have grown up a Sublime fan and ever since I heard 'What I Got' on a Matt Hoffman BMX video game in the mid-90's. I have that influence as well, I have also grown up filming stupid, 'Jackass' inspired stunts in my spare time with my friends, thus, helped to boast my claim of being a crazy fool. The lion is a symbol a strength and power. The roar is symbolic of my short and combustible temper. Another detail that I want to add to the lion is a few dreads within the lion's mane cause I think it will look sweet. The wave coming from behind the text is a symbol for the power of the ocean, and it being the universal symbol of life. The tear in the lion's eye is symbolic of the struggles in my life (both, big and small) and is supposed to illustrate the desire to fight through the difficult times in life. Let me know what you think of the artwork, or even, my inspiration for individual components of the piece.
